Preview. Prices land later this week — the desk locks picks once salaries post and the reports speak.

Season-long is a marriage; Showdown is a series of first dates, and opening week offers four of them: the champions raising a banner on Wednesday, a Thursday night played in Melbourne of all places, a Sunday night in the Meadowlands with a storyline you could not sell to a screenwriter, and a Monday in Kansas City. One game, six spots, one captain at one-and-a-half times the price and the points. The club plays these for the tournament fields, so everything below is written with leverage in mind, not safety. Prices land later this week; the reads below are structural.

### Wednesday: the banner game

New England at Seattle, with a title flag going up before kickoff. The field will read the occasion and captain the home stars — the reigning champions' passing game will be the most popular building block of the night. The leverage is wearing road grey: A.J. Brown's first competitive snaps in New England colors, against a secondary that celebrated all offseason. Banner nights have a long history of flat home starts and quiet road takeovers; the club likes the visiting alpha as captain precisely because the room will not.

### Thursday: the Melbourne experiment

San Francisco and the Rams fly across the international date line to play a division game on a streaming service, and Aaron Donald's first game back from retirement happens fourteen time zones from home. This is the card of the week for tournament players because nobody — not the books, not the projections, not the coaches — knows what two jet-lagged offenses look like. Variance is the whole meal: kickers and defenses captain at rates the field will not stomach, the Rams front against a 49ers line meeting Donald and Garrett in the same afternoon argues for the under, and if the game does devolve, a Rams defense captain is the kind of ticket that wins a million-entry field. The punt of the night is the third receiver in San Francisco — the club has written about him twice already, and he costs the minimum.

### Sunday night: the reunion

Dallas at the Giants, and a thirty-three-year-old who began his career in that stadium making a roster nobody thought he would. Odell Beckham as a captain is bad process and irresistible theater; the club permits one ticket of it, no more. The sober build stacks the Dallas passing game against a Giants secondary breaking in new parts, brings it back with whichever Giant runs the routes if the young star receiver's opener is in doubt, and avoids both backfields entirely — a crowded room in New York is not where September clarity lives.

### Monday: the question mark

Denver at Kansas City hangs on one injury designation. If the Chiefs quarterback carries his question tag into Monday, ownership will scatter and late swap becomes the entire game — hold your captain flexibility until the inactives. The Denver backfield is a three-headed committee the club refuses to captain on principle.
