The saddest ritual in fantasy sport is the August research binder closed forever on Labor Day. It shouldn't be. Everything the draft season taught you — prices against projections, roles against reputations — is precisely the discipline daily fantasy pays for from September to January. This article is the bridge, and the syllabus for what this room becomes when the season opens.

### What changes on DraftKings

Season-long drafting asks you to be right for four months; a DraftKings slate asks you to be right for one afternoon, against a salary cap, in a field of entrants mostly copying each other. Three consequences follow. First, price discipline replaces loyalty — the player pool resets weekly, and there are no sunk costs. Second, correlation becomes strategy: the quarterback stacked with his receiver, the game whose total invites shootout scripts. Third, the field itself becomes an opponent — the popular play (the chalk, in the trade's vocabulary) is only correct at the right price, and the tournament is won by the roster the field didn't build.

Season-long is a marriage. A slate is a single hand of cards — played against everyone else at the table.

### What carries over

More than you'd think. The best-ball markets already run year-round — the professional shops maintain DraftKings-specific boards among a dozen format lists, and DraftKings' own best-ball contests are live all summer — so the market's opinion of every player is continuously priced. The August ledgers in Articles II and III are, in DFS terms, a head start on value identification: the room that faded Rashee Rice at 3.01 in August is the same room that will overpay for him at $8,200 in October after two touchdown games. Roles we flagged — Rodriguez at the goal line, Boston's target share, Lane in the red zone — become weekly pricing inefficiencies before the salary algorithms catch up.

### What this room will carry

When the Week 1 slate posts in September, the DraftKings room opens with a weekly card in the club's format: short, sourced, and priced. Expect a cash-game core (the floor plays), two or three tournament pivots off the week's chalk, one stack we believe in, and a note on the slate's structural trap. Golf follows later — same discipline, eighteen holes, one card at a time. The binder stays open. That is rather the point of the club.
